Pakistan showcases rice export potential at FOODEX Japan 2026

Pakistan highlighted the growing potential of its rice exports to Japan during the international food and beverage exhibition FOODEX Japan 2026, held at Tokyo Big Sight from March 10 to 13.

ISLAMABAD, Mar 12 (APP): Pakistan highlighted the growing potential of its rice exports to Japan during the international food and beverage exhibition FOODEX Japan 2026, held at Tokyo Big Sight from March 10 to 13. The participation underscored Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to expand market access and strengthen trade engagement with Japan’s food industry.
Pakistan, one of the world’s leading rice exporters, showcased its premium rice varieties particularly Basmati rice known for its distinctive aroma, extra-long grain and superior cooking qualities. Pakistani Basmati has increasingly gained recognition among Japanese buyers, especially in the hospitality and food service sectors.
As part of activities during FOODEX week, the Embassy of Pakistan in Tokyo organized a promotional event titled “Pakistan Rice Experience – Aroma & Grain of Pakistan” on March 12. The event brought together Japanese importers, trading houses, food industry representatives and culinary professionals, providing them an opportunity to evaluate Pakistani rice varieties and interact directly with exporters visiting Japan.
Speaking at the event, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Japan Abdul Hameed highlighted Pakistan’s position as a reliable supplier of rice to global markets and stressed the importance of strengthening commercial linkages between Pakistan’s agricultural exporters and Japan’s food industry. He noted that amid evolving regional and international developments affecting global supply chains and logistics, dependable agricultural supply partnerships have become increasingly important.
The ambassador reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to working closely with its trading partners to ensure stable supplies and to contribute positively to global food security through reliable agricultural exports.
The event also featured a presentation on Pakistan’s rice sector and export capabilities by Trade and Investment Counsellor Madiha Ali, followed by a curated tasting session of premium Pakistani rice varieties. The presentation highlighted the distinctive characteristics of Pakistani rice and explored opportunities to expand its presence in the Japanese market through stronger engagement with importers and food industry stakeholders.
Pakistani exporters participating in FOODEX Japan included Meskay & Femtee (Pvt.) Ltd., Decent Rice Mills, Matco Foods Ltd. and Garib Sons. Established Pakistani brands already present in the Japanese market, including Guard Rice and Mehran Rice, were also highlighted during the engagement.
The Embassy of Pakistan in Tokyo said it will continue working with industry stakeholders and Japanese partners to promote Pakistan’s agri-food exports and facilitate greater trade cooperation between the two countries.
