PRA to launch public awareness campaign against tax evasion

LAHORE, Mar 12 (APP): Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has decided to launch a public awareness campaign against tax evasion across the province.
The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by PRA Chairman Moazzam Iqbal Sipra here Thursday. It was decided that an awareness campaign will be initiated in educational institutions from next month, and students will be encouraged to act as PRA Ambassadors to promote tax awareness and responsible civic behavior.
Citizens will be able to verify receipts issued by hotels, restaurants, gyms and aesthetic clinics through the PRA mobile application as well as via a dedicated WhatsApp number. The initiative aims to ensure transparency and discourage the issuance of fake receipts. In the initial phase, the School Education Department and PRA will jointly launch the awareness campaign in schools across Punjab.
The Chairman said that strict action will be taken against businesses issuing fake receipts. During enforcement actions, up to 20 percent of the recovered fine amount will be awarded to the complainant as an incentive.
He further stated that the Whistleblower Act will come into immediate effect after approval by the government. The introduction of financial rewards is expected to significantly increase public reporting of violations and raise awareness about tax compliance.
The initiative aims to promote a stronger tax culture across Punjab and encourage citizens to play an active role in ensuring transparency and compliance.
