KARACHI, Mar 12 (APP): Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi has taken notice of the increasing number of professional beggars in the city ahead of Eid al-Fitr.
He has directed Deputy Commissioners to continue and intensify the campaign against professional beggars in markets, intersections, and shopping centers.
He said that Deputy Commissioners should ensure these beggars are not visible in public areas, as they cause distress to citizens.
According to the hand out issued by the Commissioner’s office, in the last 10 days, 144 professional beggars were arrested, and FIRs were lodged against 30 beggars under the concerned assistant Commissioner’s orders.
According to the details, 18 beggars were arrested in District Central while 6 FIRs were registered, 32 beggars were arrested in District East with 2 FIRs, 10 beggars were arrested in Keamari, 14 beggars were arrested in Korangi, 24 beggars were arrested in Malir while 17 FIRs were registered, 45 beggars arrested in South with 5 FIRs, and 1 beggar was arrested in West.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner’s office has released a report on price control drive.
According to the details on the 22nd Ramazan, 83 profiteers were fined Rs 496,000; Assistant Commissioners auctioned foods at official rates at 139 locations while they checked prices at 631 locations.
