LHC disposes of petition for recovery of accused after report of police encounter

LAHORE, Mar 12 (APP): The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday disposed of a petition seeking the recovery of an accused, Nauman Qaiser, after authorities informed the court that he had been killed in a police encounter in Ghotki.
Justice Muhammad Jawad Zafar heard the petition filed by Asifa Shaheen, who had approached the court seeking the recovery of her husband, Nauman Qaiser.
During the hearing, SP Crime Control Department Nasir Abbas and other CCD officials appeared before the court, while Assistant Advocate General Rana Umair Abrar represented the Punjab government and submitted a report on behalf of the Additional Inspector General of CCD.
According to the report, Nauman Qaiser had been arrested by the Crime Control Department in a criminal case and was sent to jail on February 13. However, authorities later received information that he was killed during a police encounter in Ghotki.
During the proceedings, the judge asked the law officer about the cases registered against the accused, noting that the petition for his recovery had been filed only a day earlier. The law officer informed the court that two murder cases and one robbery case had been registered against Nauman Qaiser.
Counsel for the petitioner argued that his client had been released on bail in one case and that CCD officials had previously stated that he was not required in any other matter. The lawyer further alleged that Nauman Qaiser was abducted outside the jail the following day and later killed in what was described as a police encounter.
After reviewing the report submitted by CCD authorities, the court expressed satisfaction and disposed of the recovery petition, while directing the petitioner to approach the relevant legal forum if she wished to pursue further legal action.
