16.4 Maunds spoiled meat seized, 4 arrested

The Punjab  Food Authority (PFA) foiled an attempt to supply unhealthy meat to the public by seizing and destroying a large quantity of spoiled meat during a joint operation near Jand in the district , the officials sources said on Thursday.

ATTOCK, Mar 12 (APP): The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) foiled an attempt to supply unhealthy meat to the public by seizing and destroying a large quantity of spoiled meat during a joint operation near Jand in the district, the officials sources said on Thursday.
According to authorities, the action was carried out at the Khushal Garh highway check post after police alerted the food safety team about a passenger bus transporting suspected meat from Gujranwala to Kohat under highly unhygienic conditions.
A food safety team, accompanied by livestock officials and  the local administration, inspected the vehicle and discovered around 16.4 maunds of meat stored in 10 blue chemical drums without any cold-chain facility.
The 0fficials said the meat was found to be rotten, contaminated and unfit for human consumption.
