Women throng markets as Eid shopping gains momentum

RAWALPINDI, Mar 09 (APP): Eid shopping has started gaining momentum in the twin cities and other parts of the country as a large number of women have begun visiting markets and shopping centres to purchase clothes, shoes, jewellery and cosmetics ahead of Eid al-Fitr.
Reports from different commercial areas of Rawalpindi indicate that markets, particularly the historic Moti Bazaar, Raja Bazar, Tench Bhatta and Saddar, are witnessing an unusual rush of shoppers. Women were seen purchasing Eid dresses, bangles, mehndi and other festive accessories as preparations for the religious festival gather pace.
Shopkeepers said the number of customers usually increases significantly after the middle of Ramazan, with women showing keen interest in both traditional and modern fashion outfits for Eid celebrations.
According to traders, sparkling khussas, kaftan-style dresses and glass bangles are emerging as popular fashion trends this season, attracting a large number of buyers in the markets.
Meanwhile, special discounts offered by various brands on the occasion of International Women’s Day have also drawn women towards shopping malls and commercial centres, further increasing the rush of customers.
Citizens said Eid shopping is an important part of the festivities associated with the religious occasion. They added that markets become even more vibrant as Chand Raat approaches, when women visit bazaars late into the night for mehndi application and last-minute shopping.
Traders expect the pace of Eid shopping to increase further in the coming days, which will bring greater activity and colour to markets and commercial centres across the city.
