Sharjeel takes notice of increase in public transport fares
KARACHI, Mar 09 (APP):Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has taken notice of the increase in public transport fares and directed the Secretary Transport to review the fares and determine appropriate and balanced rates if necessary.
He also instructed the Transport Department to take action against transporters, who are illegally increasing fares.
An important meeting of the Transport and Mass Transit Department was held in Karachi under the chairmanship of Sindh Senior Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon.
Speaking at the meeting, the senior minister said that arbitrarily increasing fares under the pretext of rising petroleum prices places an additional burden on the public.
He said that only the government and the Transport Department have the authority to approve any increase in fares. Strict legal action will be taken against transporters, who raise fares without government approval.
The Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon directed the Transport Department to immediately launch a field checking campaign and instructed the authorities to establish an effective system for the redressal of public grievances.
He said that the government is committed to providing relief to the people and that no one will be allowed to exploit the public.
