LAHORE, Mar 04 (APP):A gang involved in defrauding citizens at ATM booths on the pretext of blocked cards was arrested with the assistance of the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA), on Wednesday.
According to the spokesperson, the suspects looted a citizen at an ATM of a private bank in Faisal Town by falsely claiming that his card had been blocked. The suspects initially staged a failed transaction and, seizing the opportunity, observed the victim’s PIN code and swapped his ATM card. They subsequently withdrew cash from the victim’s account and fled the scene.
The spokesperson said that following the incident, the affected citizen immediately informed Safe City by calling the Emergency Helpline 15. A virtual patrolling officer of PSCA traced the suspects’ movement through the network of modern surveillance cameras installed across the city. The suspects were seen traveling on various city roads through camera footage.
As a result of timely coordination between Safe City and the police, the accused were arrested and a case has been registered against them. Mobile phones, cash and other digital devices were also recovered from their possession.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the arrested suspects were wanted by police in multiple cases of fraud and deception. The spokesperson urged citizens to promptly report any suspicious activity or incident to the Emergency Helpline 15 to ensure swift legal action.
