VC IUB urges protection of Cholistan on World Wildlife Day

BAHAWALPUR, Mar 04 (APP):The Islamia University of Bahawalpur observed World Wildlife Day with a renewed commitment to biodiversity conservation and environmental sustainability.
Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Kamran, in his message, emphasized the importance of protecting natural heritage and urged students and faculty to adopt sustainable practices and actively contribute to wildlife conservation.
He particularly highlighted the responsibility of safeguarding ecologically significant regions such as Cholistan and reaffirmed the university’s dedication to environmentally responsible research for a greener future.
In connection with the day, the Institute of Forest Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture and Environment, organized a series of activities. The celebrations began with a seminar titled “Medicinal and Aromatic Plants: Conserving Health, Heritage and Livelihoods,” focusing on the role of such plants in human health, preservation of traditional knowledge, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable livelihoods.
Director Institute of Forest Sciences Prof Dr Muhammad Rafay welcomed the participants and underscored the importance of sustainable use of natural resources for present and future generations.
Irsa Irshad from the Wildlife Department, Government of Punjab, delivered a keynote address highlighting the role of environmental institutions in protecting ecosystems and encouraging community and youth engagement in conservation efforts.
