ISLAMABAD, Mar 04 (APP):Pak-China Friendship Cup All Pakistan 3×3 Basketball Championship is set to commence on Thursday at Pakistan Sports Complex Islamabad, in a spirited celebration of 75 years of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China.
The four-day FIBA-endorsed tournament, running through March 8, is being held under the umbrella of Pakistan Basketball Federation (PBBF), with support from Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) and Federal Basketball Association (FBBA).
The event highlights unbreakable bonds of friendship between the two nations through the dynamic sport of 3×3 basketball.
According to FBBA Secretary Dr. Ouj-e-Zohoor, the event symbolizes the deep-rooted brotherly ties and promotes sports diplomacy, cultural exchange, and international goodwill. “This championship reflects the longstanding friendship between Pakistan and China, while showcasing the surging growth of 3×3 basketball across the country,” he stated.
The competition has drawn record participation, featuring three categories:
Women’s Category: 26 teams, including top departmental outfits like Pakistan Army and WAPDA.
Club Category: 48 teams from cities nationwide, including Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, and beyond, demonstrating grassroots enthusiasm for the fast-paced format.
Departmental Category: 16 elite teams, featuring powerhouses such as Pakistan Army, WAPDA, Pakistan Police, Pakistan Air Force, Pakistan Ordnance Factories, and Pakistan Navy.
A highlight of the event will be a special exhibition match on March 7 between a visiting Chinese team and a local Pakistani club, embodying sports as a bridge for stronger bilateral relations.
The Embassy of China in Pakistan will also host a cultural ceremony during the championship to celebrate the Chinese New Year, further enhancing people-to-people connections and cultural ties.
Under the directives of Pakistan Sports Board Director General Yasir Pirzada, full logistical and facilitative support is being provided to guarantee a professionally managed and successful tournament.
As a FIBA-recognized event, the championship will award ranking points toward international 3×3 standings, boosting Pakistan’s visibility in global basketball.
