Engineers key to Pakistan’s sustainable growth & technological self-reliance: PEC Chairman

ISLAMABAD, Mar 03 (APP):Chairman of the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC), Engr Waseem Nazir, on the occasion of World Engineers Day, paid rich tribute to engineers across Pakistan and overseas, describing them as the backbone of national development and the driving force behind economic resilience and technological advancement.
In a special message, the PEC chairman extended warm congratulations to the engineering community for their unwavering dedication, innovation and professional excellence in serving the nation.
He said engineers are playing a transformative role in shaping Pakistan’s future by building critical infrastructure, modernizing industries, and delivering practical solutions to complex challenges in energy, water management, environment, healthcare and digital transformation.
“Engineers are not only constructing roads, bridges and buildings; they are constructing the future of Pakistan,” he said, adding that from sustainable urban planning to industrial expansion and technological self-reliance, the engineering community remains central to national progress.
Engr Waseem Nazir emphasized that World Engineers Day is also a moment of reflection for society to recognize and value the often-unseen contributions of engineers.
He noted that their expertise and commitment directly influence public safety, national productivity and innovation-driven growth.
He underscored the importance of providing engineers with greater professional opportunities, institutional support and recognition to accelerate Pakistan’s development journey. “Empowering our engineers means empowering Pakistan,” he remarked.
Reaffirming PEC’s commitment, he said the Council continues to strengthen regulation of the engineering profession, promote quality education, enhance professional capacity and foster research and innovation in line with international standards.
Invoking the vision of Muhammad Ali Jinnah for a progressive and self-reliant nation, the PEC chairman urged engineers to uphold the highest standards of integrity, responsibility and excellence.
He called for a renewed collective resolve to work together in engineering a safer, stronger and more prosperous Pakistan.
