KARACHI, Mar 02 (APP): Sindh Government Spokesperson Sukhdev Hemnani has extended heartfelt greetings to the Hindu community of Sindh on the auspicious occasion of Holi, describing the festival as a celebration of harmony and Sindh’s shared cultural heritage.
He underscored the Sindh Government’s firm commitment to protecting religious freedoms guaranteed under the Constitution. Upon his recommendation in an early communique, the Inspector General of Sindh Police has issued instructions to ensure foolproof security, including preventive and special measures, at all places of worship and communal spaces of the Hindu community during Holi.
Hemnani further shared that, on the appeal of President Asif Ali Zardari and in view of the prevailing situation, the Hindu community of Sindh has decided to cancel Holi celebrations this year, in solidarity with Muslim brethren and in respect of the sanctity of Ramazan.
The Sindh Government has also declared official holidays for the Hindu community on 3rd and 4th March. He stated that “Sindh is home to the majority of the Hindu population of Pakistan, and this diversity is integral to our collective identity.”
He added that the PPP-led Sindh Government, under the leadership of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, upholds the values of equal citizenship, dignity and inclusion.
In line with this vision, Pakistan Peoples Party has institutionalized non-discrimination through landmark measures such as the Sindh Hindu Marriage Amendment Act, constitutionally protected job quotas for minorities and the inclusion of minority communities in all provincial development initiatives.
Hemnani underscored that PPP has ensured meaningful political inclusion by bringing minority candidates to general seats, increasing minority representation in the Senate, and taking historic steps such as the declaration of 11 August as National Minorities Day.
He reiterated that Sindh will continue to stand as a beacon of tolerance, pluralism and interfaith harmony in Pakistan.
