Federal Health Minister briefed on national project to prevent Thalassemia & other hereditary diseases

ISLAMABAD, Mar 02 (APP):Federal Minister for National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination, Syed Mustafa Kamal, chaired a meeting in which the Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of National Institute of Health (NIH) and the Drug Regulatory Authority Pakistan (DRAP) participated.
During the meeting, the Minister was given a detailed briefing on the contours and strategic importance of the Pakistan National Human Genome Project.
The briefing highlighted that the project is essential for understanding the unique genetic makeup of the Pakistani population, preventing hereditary diseases such as Thalassemia, providing affordable and accurate diagnosis, and achieving Genomic Sovereignty for the country.
Appreciating the significance of the initiative, the Federal Health Minister directed the NIH to prepare a comprehensive implementation strategy in collaboration with subject experts so that the people of Pakistan can benefit from modern genetic healthcare and precision medicine in the near future.
