RAWALPINDI, Feb 26 (APP): The City Traffic Police (CTP) Rawalpindi will officially begin issuing learner driving permits for youths aged 16 to 18 from April 1.
Chief Traffic Officer Farhan Aslam told APP on Thursday that all arrangements had been completed and that “applications will be accepted from the scheduled date.” The fee for the permit or learner licence would be Rs 500, while applicants would be required to pass a road test and a sign (traffic signal) test.
The CTO added that a parent’s or legal guardian’s consent on a stamp paper, along with a B-form, would be necessary for applicants.
Permit holders aged 16 to 18 would not be allowed to operate motorcycles exceeding 125cc, and electric bikes would also need to comply with prescribed power and speed limits, he said.
The Chief Traffic Officer noted that the special permit would be considered invalid upon the holder turning 18, after which a new application for a full driving licence would be required. He said the initiative aimed to promote responsible driving among young people and reduce traffic accidents.
