MULTAN, Feb 26 (APP):Police at Gulghast Police Station claimed to have arrested an alleged robber following an encounter.
According to police details, the accused was apprehended in an injured condition late at night while officers were patrolling at Dinpur Square.
Police said two individuals appeared and were moving quickly toward Basti Nu. When officers signaled them to stop, one of the suspects opened fire. Constable Tanvir was hit, but he survived due to wearing a bulletproof vest. Police took cover behind nearby installations as the firing continued for some time.
After the exchange, the accused was spotted with a gunshot wound on his left hand. Rescuers shifted him to the hospital, where he was later identified as Mohammad Ramzan, son of Mumtaz Hussain, resident of Wood Market, Basti Khwajgan. Police also recovered a 30-bore pistol from him.
The suspect was also reportedly involved in harassing women in the area. His accomplice managed to escape. Police have constituted teams to arrest the second suspect and are continuing investigations.
