ISLAMABAD, Feb 26 (APP):The Supreme Court of Pakistan has accepted the Punjab government’s appeal in a case concerning the service structure of Punjab Rescue 1122 employees, ruling that the Service Tribunal had no jurisdiction to hear their cases.
A two-member bench headed by Justice Ayesha Malik heard the case. In its judgment, the apex court held that although Rescue 1122 employees are public servants, they are not governed by the civil servants’ rules.
The court observed that Rescue 1122 employees may approach the relevant high court for the resolution of their service-related matters and other grievances.
According to the judgment, the Service Tribunal did not have the authority to adjudicate such cases.
During the hearing, Additional Advocate General Punjab Sanaullah appeared on behalf of the provincial government and argued that the Service Tribunal had declared Rescue 1122 employees as civil servants in 2023, which was legally incorrect.
Subsequently, the Supreme Court allowed the Punjab government’s appeal and set aside the Service Tribunal’s decision.
