Seven arrested in crackdown on illegal hunting, bird trade

RAWALPINDI, Feb 26 (APP):Wildlife Rangers in Rawalpindi carried out two separate operations against illegal hunting and wildlife trade, arresting seven offenders and imposing fines amounting to Rs. 230,000.
According to the details, in the first operation, Wildlife Rangers conducted a raid against the illegal hunting of wild boar and wild hare using dogs, in Rawalpindi. Five offenders were apprehended on the spot, and five challans were registered. The accused were collectively fined Rs. 150,000.0 as compensation under the relevant wildlife laws.
In a separate action, rangers targeted the illegal trade of grey partridge through social media platforms. Two individuals were arrested for their involvement in the unlawful sale of the protected birds.
During the raid, 25 Grey Partridges were confiscated. Two challans were registered against the offenders, and a total compensation of Rs. 80,000.0 was imposed.
Officials said all 25 recovered partridges were later released into their natural habitat in accordance with wildlife protection protocols.
Assistant Chief Wildlife Ranger District Rawalpindi, Rizwana Aziz, said the department would continue strict monitoring and enforcement operations to curb illegal hunting and online wildlife trade.
Talking to APP, she warned that indiscriminate action would be taken against violators and urged citizens to report any unlawful wildlife activities to the authorities.
