LAHORE, Feb 25 (APP): Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Abdul Kareem on Wednesday distributed additional cheques worth Rs 5 million among the families of police martyrs prior to 2017 for construction of houses, reaffirming that welfare of martyrs’ families remained a top priority of Punjab Police.
According to the police spokesperson, a ceremony in this regard was held at the Central Police Office Lahore, where financial assistance cheques for house construction were distributed among the families of martyrs. The spokesperson said cheques of Rs 500,000 each were given to the families of 10 police martyrs belonging to Lahore and Sheikhupura.
He added that cheques for construction would also be distributed to the families of 46 more police martyrs through the respective RPOs and DPOs.
Addressing the ceremony, the Abdul Kareem said that funds would be provided this year for the construction of 200 new houses for the families of police martyrs prior to 2017, adding that each family would be given Rs 2.5 million by Punjab Police for house construction.
He further said that plots had already been provided to the families of 737 police martyrs prior to 2017 for construction of houses, while Punjab Police had so far spent Rs 120 million from its own resources for this purpose. He added that 29 families of police martyrs had completed construction of their houses through the Punjab Police Endowment Fund.
IGP Punjab Abdul Kareem said police martyrs were the pride of the department and resolving the difficulties faced by their families was the foremost responsibility of Punjab Police.
Additional IG Punjab Imran Arshad, DIG Welfare and Finance Zeeshan Asghar, DIG IT Mansoor-ul-Haq Rana, AIG Welfare Nasir Ali Bajwa and other senior police officers attended the ceremony.
