Sukkur IBA University organizes laptop distribution ceremony

SUKKUR, Feb 25 (APP): Sukkur IBA University organized a Laptop Distribution Ceremony under the Prime Minister’s Youth Laptop Scheme and inaugurated state of the art AI and Data Science Labs at its Main Campus.
Chief Guest Syed Kumail Hyder Shah, Chairman District Council Sukkur, attended the event here on Wednesday.
Vice Chancellor (VC), Prof Dr Asif Ahmed Shaikh announced that 261 laptops were allocated this phase 212 for the Main Campus and 49 for Dadu, Mirpurkhas, Khairpur, and Kandhkot campuses. Since 2014, the university has received 2,506 laptops through a transparent HEC-managed system.
He stressed laptops’ importance for Computer Science, AI, and Software Engineering students, thanked the Federal Government and HEC, and requested increased future allocations. He also highlighted the success of the Peoples Information Technology Program (PITP), which has trained thousands and enabled students to earn through digital skills.
Deputy Registrar Muhammad Ali Sheikh noted over 2,000 applications, with 261 students selected on merit, urging recipients to use laptops for academic work.
Chief Guest Shah praised the university’s progress, called the laptop scheme and PITP transformative, and announced the District Peoples IT Program with 25 laptops, pledging support for AI and IT projects with Sindh Government collaboration. He encouraged students to innovate and excel.
The ceremony ended with souvenir distribution and a group photo, reaffirming Sukkur IBA’s commitment to digital empowerment and youth development.
