RAWALPINDI, Feb 25 (APP):Awareness walks were held on Tuesday across all 22 tehsils of the Rawalpindi Division as part of the Punjab Government’s ‘Suthra Punjab’ programme to promote anti-littering and cleanliness, officials said.
The events saw participation from district and tehsil administration officials, staff of the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC), elected representatives, business community members, students and local citizens.
The walks aimed to raise public awareness about hygiene, inform residents of anti-littering regulations, and encourage disposal of waste at designated locations. The participants carried banners and placards highlighting the importance of cleanliness and penalties for violations. Announcements were also made in markets, main roads and public spaces across various cities and tehsils.
RWMC teams distributed informational pamphlets and briefed citizens on how to lodge complaints regarding violations. The officials said enforcement of anti-littering laws would be ensured and fines imposed for non-compliance, while emphasising that the primary focus remained public awareness and civic responsibility.
RWMC Chief Executive Officer Rana Sajid Safdar described the Suthra Punjab programme as a transformative initiative to strengthen the province’s sanitation system. He appealed to citizens, traders, students and civil society to take responsibility for cleanliness and contribute actively to making the Rawalpindi Division clean, green and attractive.
