NLPD DG, ED express grief over passing of renowned scholar Dr. Haroon ur Rashid Tabassum, poet Syed Salman Gilani

ISLAMABAD, Feb 25 (APP): Director General and Executive Director of the National Language Promotion Department (NLPD) have expressed profound grief and sorrow over the passing of renowned scholar Dr. Haroon ur Rashid Tabassum and eminent poet Syed Salman Gilani.
In separate condolence messages, Director General Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saleem Mazhar and Executive Director Dr. Rashid Hameed paid tribute to the invaluable academic and literary services of the two distinguished figures.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saleem Mazhar described Dr. Haroon ur Rashid Tabassum as a devoted interpreter and ardent admirer of the philosophy of Allama Muhammad Iqbal.
He noted that Dr. Tabassum was widely recognized for his intellectual insight in the fields of research and critical analysis. Throughout his life, he dedicated himself to the explanation, interpretation, and promotion of Iqbal’s thought and artistic legacy. Nearly 200 of his works were published, more than 50 of which focused specifically on Iqbaliyat (Iqbal studies). In recognition of his scholarly contributions, he received numerous literary awards. “His absence will be felt in academic circles for a long time to come,” he remarked.
Paying tribute to Syed Salman Gilani, the officials said he held a distinguished place in literary circles for his unique, effective, and heartfelt poetry on Naat, Khatm-e-Nabuwwat (Finality of Prophethood), and social themes. Widely known as the “Poet of Khatm-e-Nabuwwat,” Gilani captivated audiences with his distinctive style in devotional, satirical, and humorous poetry. His autobiography, Meri Baatein Hain Yaad Rakhne Ki, was also well received in literary circles, offering engaging reflections and memorable episodes from his life.
The Director General and Executive Director emphasized that, with the passing of these two luminaries, Urdu literature has been deprived of a bright and era-defining chapter. They prayed for the elevation of the departed souls’ ranks, forgiveness, and patience for the bereaved families.
