Commissioner reviews ongoing remodeling project progress

RAWALPINDI, Feb 24 (APP): Commissioner Rawalpindi Engineer Aamir Khattak on Monday reviewed the ongoing construction work of the Katchehry Chowk Remodeling Project and said the 18-month scheme would be completed in just six months without compromising on quality.
During a detailed visit, the commissioner, accompanied by officials of the Frontier Works Organization (FWO), inspected various sections of the project. Officers of the concerned departments, engineers and contractors were also present and briefed him on the pace of work.
Officials informed that construction activities are continuing in double shifts and the overall progress has reached 61.8%. Physical progress at Katchehry Intersection stands at 64%, Iftikhar Janjua Chowk at 65% and Annexy Chowk at 62%.
The project, launched in November 2025 with an original completion timeline of 18 months, is being expedited in view of public convenience. A revised deadline of April 30, 2026 has been set for its completion.
The commissioner said that with modern infrastructure development, Rawalpindi is steadily moving towards becoming a connected and smart city. He noted that the Rawalpindi Signal-Free Corridor Project would bring revolutionary improvements in urban mobility.
Under the mega scheme, dual flyovers and an underpass at Jinnah Park and Katchehry Chowk, along with an underpass at Iftikhar Janjua Chowk, are under rapid construction.
He said that upon completion, the project would significantly reduce traffic congestion, shorten travel time and help save fuel for commuters.
Engineer Aamir Khattak directed that the traffic management plan must be strictly implemented during the construction phase to minimize inconvenience to citizens. He stressed that the project must be completed within the stipulated deadline and that no compromise would be allowed on construction standards.
