Soyabean oil import decreases by 42.27% and palm oil imports grew by 24.28%

ISLAMABAD, Feb 24 (APP):The import of soyabean oil into the country during the first seven months of the current financial year decreased by 42.27 per cent as compared to the import of the corresponding period of the last year.
During the period from July-January, 2025-26, about 85,771 metric tons of soyaban oil costing $94.991 million were imported in order to fulfill the local consumption, according to the data of the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
The soyabean oil import into the country during the seven months of the last financial year was recorded at 94,991 metric tons valued at164.550 million, it added.
Meanwhile, the import of palm oil into the country during the first seven months of the current financial year increased by 24.28 per cent as 2.182 million metric tons of the above-mentioned commodity costing $2.350 billion were imported to fulfill the local requirements of edible oil and vegetable ghee.
The import of palm oil during the same period of the last year was recorded at 1.887 million metric tons valued at $1.885 billion, it added.
It is worth mentioning here that the food commodities valued at $2.988 billion were exported during the first seven months of the current financial year, as compared to the exports of $4.613 billion of the corresponding period of the last year.
During the period from July to January, 2025-26, food exports from the country decreased by 35.21 per cent compared to the exports of the same period of the last year.
On a month-on-month basis, the food commodities worth 624.445 million were exported in January 2026, as against the exports of $405.983 million in December 2025.
On the other hand, the food group imports into the country during the first seven months of the current financial year increased by 19.26 per cent as compared to the corresponding period of the last year.
The food commodities costing $5.502 billion were imported during the seven months of the current financial year as compared to the imports of $4.613 billion of the last year.
On a month-on-month basis, the imports of food commodities were recorded at $871.468 million in January 2026 as compared to the exports of $783.438 million in December 2025.
