KARACHI, Feb 23 (APP): Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh Javed Alam Odho on Monday chaired a high-level meeting to review the overall law and order and security situation in Karachi, with special focus on emerging threats and preventive measures.
According to a news release, the meeting conducted a detailed assessment of intelligence inputs received in the wake of an unusual cross-border security situation. Participants discussed a comprehensive strategy to address potential threats and strengthen preventive security arrangements across the city.
The meeting also reviewed intelligence reports concerning the security of sensitive government and private installations as well as other important locations. Officials were informed that comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) had already been devised for implementation down to the police station level, particularly in light of intelligence-based alerts.
The Additional IGP Karachi briefed participants on preparedness measures, while the Additional IGP Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) stressed the need to secure entry and exit points of the province amid potential terrorism threats.
Addressing the meeting, the IGP directed that Quick Response Force units in every district of Karachi remain on high alert at all times. He ordered further strengthening of checking mechanisms at entry and exit points of major cities and instructed the CTD and Special Branch to ensure timely intelligence sharing with district police.
The police chief also directed officers to personally inspect sensitive installations and monitor security arrangements in the field. He ordered that general hold-ups and snap checking be conducted twice daily to enhance vigilance.
Additionally, he emphasized accelerating ongoing police action against professional beggars as part of broader law enforcement efforts.
