Afghanistan turns into hub of terror, illicit networks under Taliban Rule

ISLAMABAD, Feb 23 (APP): Afghanistan has emerged as a major center of terrorism, narcotics trade and human trafficking since the return of the Taliban to power, according to international observers and policy analysts.
Militant networks operating from Afghan territory are not only destabilizing neighboring countries but are also posing security concerns for nations beyond the region, including the United States, Canada and Australia.
An analysis published by renowned international magazine ‘The Diplomat’ highlights that the Taliban authorities are allegedly offering sanctuary to various extremist groups seeking to expand their activities regionally and globally. The publication stresses that continued tolerance of such groups could have serious international security implications.
The report argues for stricter enforcement of sanctions on the Taliban administration, alongside support for peaceful and inclusive political forces within Afghanistan, in order to prevent a resurgence of transnational terrorism similar to past global attacks.
It further claims that more than 6,000 militants affiliated with Fitna-al-Khwarij are currently present in Afghanistan and may have the capacity to operate across borders if left unchecked.
The magazine cautions that recognizing the Taliban government without tangible counterterrorism measures would be a strategic miscalculation.
Experts say the international sanctions on Afghanistan should be tightened further until concrete and verifiable steps are taken against terrorism.
