Two POs injured, re-arrested after police encounter

FAISALABAD, Feb 23 (APP):The police re-arrested two record-holding criminals in injured condition after an encounter in the area of Saddar police station.
Police said on Monday that ASI Liaqat Ali of Batala Colony police station was taking accused Haidar and Sher Muhammad for recovery in a registered case late night when four armed outlaws riding two motorcycles intercepted the police party near Sitara Gold City and opened fire.The assailants forcibly freed the detainees and fled towards Chak No.209-RB.
On receiving information, SHO Batala Colony Inspector Zaheer Gull and SHO Saddar Inspector Muhammad Ali along with heavy police contingent launched a chase operation.
The police near Jora Pull encircled the criminals and directed them for surrender but they again opened blunt firing on the police team by taking shelter in nearby sugarcane fields.
The police also returned fire in self-defense and during this encounter, the accused Haidar and Sher Muhammad received serious injuries due to the bullets fired by their own accomplices, whereas remaining outlaws managed to escape from the scene under the cover of darkness.
The police re-arrested both accused involved in 42 criminal cases and shifted them to hospital for medical treatment.
A special team was constituted to trace whereabouts of the escapees and arrest thereof, spokesman added.
