Food commodities worth $2.988 bln exported in seven months

ISLAMABAD, Feb 23 (APP):Food commodities valued at $2.988 billion were exported during the first seven months of the current financial year, as compared to the exports of $4.613 billion of the corresponding period of the last year.
During the period from July to January, 2025-26, food exports from the country decreased by 35.21 per cent compared to the exports of the same period of the last year, according to the data of the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
The country earned $1.305 billion by exporting about 2.439 million metric tons of rice during the period under review, which were recorded at $2.194 billion and 3.637 million metric tons in the same period of the last year.
In the last seven months of the current financial year, about 111,543 metric tons of fish and fish preparations worth of $253.812 million were exported, as compared to the exports of 110,050 metric tons, $232.272 million in the same period of the last year.
The exports of fish and fish products from the country during the period under review grew by 9.27 percent as compare to the exports of the same period of that last year.
On a month-on-month basis, the food commodities worth 624.445 million were exported in January 2026, as against the exports of $405.983 million in December 2025.
The food group imports into the country during the first seven months of the current financial year increased by 19.26 per cent as compared to the corresponding period of the last year.
The food commodities costing $5.502 billion were imported during the seven months of the current financial year as compared to the imports of $4.613 billion of the last year.
On a month-on-month basis, the imports of food commodities were recorded at $871.468 million in January 2026 as compared to the exports of $783.438 million in December 2025.
