Gilgit-Baltistan Sets Target of 3.5 Million Trees Under Spring Tree Plantation Drive 2026

GILGIT, Feb 22 (APP):Secretary Forest, Wildlife, Parks & Environment Gilgit-Baltistan  Waheed Shah has announced an ambitious target of planting 3.5 million trees across all districts of Gilgit-Baltistan under the Spring Tree Plantation Drive 2026, reaffirming the government’s firm commitment to environmental sustainability and climate resilience.
Addressing distinguished guests at the launch ceremony, the Secretary outlined the department’s mission, vision, and strategic roadmap aimed at expanding green cover and combating the growing challenges of climate change in the region. He stressed the importance of sustainable forest management, wildlife conservation, and the protection of natural parks as key pillars of environmental preservation.
He emphasized that active community participation, innovative planning, and strong institutional partnerships are vital to safeguarding Gilgit-Baltistan’s rich natural heritage. “Collective efforts are essential to ensure long-term environmental stability and resilience,” he remarked.
The large-scale plantation initiative will be funded under the Upscaling Green Pakistan Project, which seeks to enhance forest cover, restore degraded ecosystems, and promote climate adaptation measures across the country.
The Secretary expressed confidence that the Spring Tree Plantation Drive 2026 would significantly contribute to building a greener, healthier, and more sustainable Gilgit-Baltistan for present and future generations
