Over 160 experts attend international obesity seminar at Capital Hospital

ISLAMABAD, Feb 21 (APP): A two-day international seminar on modern surgical and pharmacological therapies for obesity concluded at Capital Hospital, drawing participation from over 160 national and international medical experts.
The seminar was organised under the direction of Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa and Member Administration Talat Mehmood Gondal, to promote global collaboration and hands-on training in obesity management.

Held under the supervision of Executive Director Capital Hospital Prof Dr Muhammad Naeem Taj, the event focused on advances in bariatric and metabolic surgery, emerging anti-obesity pharmacotherapy and the importance of long-term multidisciplinary care.
A key feature of the seminar was the live surgical demonstration by Prof Khaled Gawadat, president of the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity (IFSO), who performed a Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) procedure. During the surgery, he explained the technique and its clinical benefits to participating doctors.
The international faculty also included Prof Antonio Torres from Spain, who shared insights on the SADI-S procedure and global developments in bariatric surgery, and Dr Imran from the UAE, who spoke on evidence-based strategies for comprehensive obesity management.
The scientific sessions, organised by Prof Dr Muhammad Naeem Taj, Dr Syed Tanseer Asghar and Dr Sartaj Ali, comprised expert lectures and interactive case-based discussions. Topics included patient selection criteria, complication management and recent advances in surgical techniques such as RYGB and SADI-S.
The medical management of obesity as a chronic disease was discussed by Dr Farhan Ali and Dr Sarwar Malik, who emphasised the integration of pharmacological therapy with lifestyle modification and long-term follow-up.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Muhammad Naeem Taj said Capital Hospital was adopting comprehensive measures to address obesity and promote a healthier society.
The seminar concluded with participants underscoring the need for a multidisciplinary, evidence-based and patient-centred approach to obesity management.
The hospital reaffirmed its commitment to advancing medical education and strengthening international collaboration in healthcare.
