ISLAMABAD, Feb 21 (APP):Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Disaster Management Authority (DMA) Director General Zakir Hussain on Saturday said the government, learning from past experiences, has rolled out a strong and timely disaster management strategy, ensuring stakeholder coordination and organizing emergency measures and awareness sessions to tackle potential cloudburst-induced flooding.
While speaking exclusively to a local news channel, Zakir Hussain said the GB has embarked on a timely strategy plan to enhance flood risk management this year, ensuring coordinated action with all relevant stakeholders.
He explained that the plan emphasized preparedness and early response to cloudburst-induced floods, aiming to reduce the risk to vulnerable communities.
He added that the strategy plan brings together government departments, disaster officials and partner organizations to streamline emergency measures and improve institutional coordination before potential flood events.
Hussain added that this collaborative approach will help strengthen early warning protocols and quick deployment of resources when needed.
The director general also highlighted that awareness sessions and training programmes are being carried out for both local communities and institutional officials, helping people recognize risks early and act promptly during emergencies. These activities form an important part of the government’s effort to build resilience against extreme weather.
Hussain stressed that the timely strategy plan reflects the GB government’s commitment to protect lives and property in the region, especially given the threat of intense cloudbursts and flash floods that have affected parts of GB in recent seasons.
