Governor Kundi directs expedited completion of highway projects in KP

PESHAWAR, Feb 21 (APP):Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi has directed authorities to accelerate the pace of work on ongoing and proposed highway projects to ensure their timely completion and improved travel facilities for the public in the province.
He issued these directives during a meeting with Member of the National Highway Authority Ashfaq Ahmad at the Governor House. GM CPEC Syed Nawaz Khan and GM Chitral Zahir Khan were also present on the occasion.
The Governor was briefed that work on the 50-kilometre Yarik–Sagu Road under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor would begin soon, while the Sagu–Zhob project has been sent for approval and progress is underway.
The 127-kilometre Sarai Gambila–Kohat section of the Indus Highway is planned to be dualized with special safety measures to prevent accidents. The Kohat–Jand–Pindi Motorway has been completed and is likely to be inaugurated shortly.
The meeting was informed that the dualization and upgradation of Old Bannu Road are underway, while the Lachi–Gandi Chowk project has been completed. Work on the Peshawar Northern Bypass is progressing swiftly and is expected to be completed soon.
Progress is also continuing on Chitral–Booni–Mastuj–Shandur Road, Chitral–Ayun–Bumburet Road, Gilgit–Shandur Road and Garam Chashma–Chitral Road.
It was proposed that work on Pezu–Tank Road and Yarik–Tank Road be initiated soon to facilitate a large population. The need to dualize Dera Ismail Khan–Dera Ghazi Khan Road and construct two bypasses was also highlighted.
The bridge on the Kalur Kot–Kot Jai Link Road has been completed, while construction of the road falls under the provincial government. The Governor directed the authorities to contact the Punjab government in this regard.
The meeting was further informed that an interchange at Paharpur is proposed under CPEC. The Khyber Pass Economic Corridor was described as a key project, while a proposal to expand the Peshawar–Nowshera GT Road to three lanes is under consideration. Work on the first phase of Chakdara–Chitral Road will also commence soon.
