LAHORE, Feb 20 (APP): Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Abdul Kareem on Friday chaired a meeting at the Central Police Office to review progress on police reform targets set by Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
According to police spokesman, the IGP was briefed by senior officers on the implementation of short-term, medium-term and long-term reforms under the CM’s reform matrix. He directed that the dignity and respect of citizens visiting police stations, front desks, Khidmat Marakaz and other police offices must be ensured at all costs.
Abdul Kareem instructed regional police officers (RPOs) and district police officers (DPOs) to call citizens on a daily basis to seek feedback regarding police conduct and ensure timely redressal of complaints. He ordered strict action against officers and personnel in cases of unjustified delay in FIR registration, weak investigation and public complaints of misconduct.
Reiterating the department’s policy, the IGP said there was zero tolerance for corruption, abuse of authority and misconduct, adding that no exception would be granted to anyone found involved in such practices.
He also directed the prompt installation of panic buttons outside police stations and provision of body cameras to officials performing duties on roads and in offices. Emphasising professional development, he stressed continuation of training sessions to improve the mental and physical grooming and overall behavior of officials.
The IGP ordered immediate measures to strengthen the supervisory role of SDPOs, directing them to reach crime scenes without delay and ensure preservation of forensic evidence in all circumstances. He further directed that the ongoing crackdown against traffic law violations be intensified.
The meeting was attended by Additional IG Investigation, Additional IG Operations, Additional IG Logistics, MD Safe Cities Authority, DIG Traffic, DIG IAB, DIG Technical Procurement and DIG Welfare, while RPO Sargodha Dr. Shahzad Asif participated via video link.
