Special training session for prosecutors, police investigators held in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI, Feb 20 (APP): A special training course for prosecutors and police investigating officers was held at Rawalpindi Police Headquarters on Friday under the vision of Punjab Chief Minister for “justice for all and rule of law”.
Organised by the Punjab Public Prosecution Department under Secretary Salman Ghani, the session forms part of a series being conducted at 10 divisional headquarters in the first phase. It aimed to enhance professional skills in handling murder, sexual assault and narcotics cases, officials said.

The participants were briefed on relevant laws, investigative procedures, trial processes, and modern scientific methods of investigation. Officers from the Special Sexual Investigation Unit (SSIU) took part in the session, focusing on tracing suspects, collecting evidence and ensuring convictions. Shortcomings in investigation practices were also highlighted to improve overall efficiency.
Chief guest Justice (retired) Hassan Raza Pasha, in his lecture, emphasised the importance of effective case management to ensure timely justice for victims.
He highlighted the need for professional competence, sensitive handling of victims, proper use of forensic and medical evidence, and thorough preparation for presenting strong cases in court.
The session covered recent amendments in laws relating to rape and sexual offences, DNA profiling to link suspects with crime scenes, preparation and handling of medical-legal reports, and maintaining the chain of custody to prevent evidence loss.
The participants were also guided on protecting victims’ rights, preparing witness statements, and following professional conduct during judicial proceedings.

Officials said the programme would improve case quality, increase conviction rates, and strengthen public confidence in the justice system. The Public Prosecution Department reiterated its commitment to a zero-tolerance policy in sexual offence cases and stressed close coordination with police and other agencies to expedite pending cases.
District Prosecutor Mian Imran Rahim, Deputy District Prosecutor Rehman Shaukat Bhatti, focal person Zaeem Abbas Cheema and other prosecution and police officials attended the session.
