ISLAMABAD, Feb 19 (APP):The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday issued notices on the appeals against the conviction of Advocate Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha in the controversial tweets case.
The court also served notices to respondents on the pleas seeking suspension of the sentence of both and sought their response.
Justice Muhammad Asif heard the appeals against the conviction of the two accused. Faisal Siddiqui, Zainab Janjua and others appeared on behalf of Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha.
The petitioner’s lawyer said that the next hearing should be scheduled soon, to which Justice Muhammad Asif remarked that a date will be found.
Lawyer Faisal Siddiqui said that the case transfer application was still pending and the trial court gave the decision. The statements of two witnesses were recorded in the absence of the accused. It was also strange that when the decision was made, the trial judge removed only one paragraph from it. Justice Muhammad Asif remarked that he was taking notice and asked for the paper boxes.
Faisal Siddiqui, Advocate, requested that the date for the suspension of sentence be scheduled closer to the hearing date. He stated that he comes from Karachi and asked that the date be fixed for the day he is present.
The Court inquired when he would be coming. Faisal Siddiqui, Advocate, requested that the date be fixed for Monday or Tuesday. The Court replied that he would receive the date from the office.
The court issued a notice to the NCCIA and sought its response and adjourned the further hearing of the case.
The trial court had sentenced Iman Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha to ten years in prison. On the other hand, Judge Abual
Hasanat Muhammad Zulqarnain of the Anti-Terrorism Court, Islamabad, granted bail to Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha after their arrest in the case of a fight with the police and ordered their release on bail.
