LAHORE, Feb 14 (APP):Punjab University (PU) Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali on Saturday said innovation, respect for others and tolerance among students were essential for success in practical life and for the progress of institutions.
He was addressing the 135th convocation of the university held at Faisal Auditorium. Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood, Registrar Dr Ahmad Islam, Controller of Examinations Muhammad Rauf Nawaz, deans of various faculties, heads of departments, faculty members, students and their parents attended the ceremony.
A total of 334 PhD degrees were awarded at the convocation. Students of MS/MPhil programmes received 124 gold medals, while 153 gold medals were awarded to undergraduate students. In addition, degrees were conferred upon 1,040 students from various disciplines.
In his address, Prof Dr Muhammad Ali said only those nations progressed in the world that excelled in knowledge and research. He stressed the need to produce skilled youth capable of serving society in the future, adding that teachers, parents and students must play an equal role in this regard.
He said teachers played a pivotal role in any university and noted that PU faculty members were making the country proud both nationally and internationally. He advised students to measure success not by wealth and power, but by knowledge and piety.
