PESHAWAR, Feb 12 (APP): Following instructions from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister (CM) Sohail Afridi, an inquiry committee has been formed regarding the harassment case at the University of Peshawar (UoP) and a detailed report has been demanded.
According to official sources on Thursday, the provincial government has also announced strict measures to ensure the safety and protection of female students in universities. Under the new directives, all kinds of contact between female students and male teachers have been completely prohibited.
The KP government has issued clear instructions to implement a strict code of conduct regarding interaction between faculty members and female students. University administrations have also been directed to resolve student complaints immediately.
The official statement further said that awareness seminars against harassment will be mandatory in all public sector universities. Universities have also been instructed to hold quarterly workshops at least four times a year.
Students and staff will also be educated about the Protection Against Harassment Act 2010 and the HEC harassment policy.
The CM has sought reports from all universities and ordered immediate implementation of these directives. The Higher Education Department has also been instructed to regularly submit progress reports.
