ISLAMABAD, Feb 12 (APP):Islamabad’s district administration has made online registration mandatory for taxi and Bykea drivers, with 313 drivers completing the process on the first day, as part of a system aimed at safer travel in the federal capital.
Officials said a dedicated digital dashboard prepared by the administration is now fully functional and open for drivers to register their vehicles and personal details.
According to the administration, 313 drivers completed their registration on the very first day after the system went live. Each registered driver is issued a QR code, which must be clearly displayed on the vehicle. The QR code allows passengers to verify the registration status of the driver and vehicle by scanning it with a mobile phone.
In this regard, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad said the main purpose of the registration drive is to ensure safer travel for citizens using online taxi and bike-hailing services. He said the system will help authorities keep a verified record of drivers operating in the city and reduce risks faced by passengers during daily travel.
Under the new system, citizens can scan the QR code attached to a registered vehicle and instantly check whether the driver is approved by the district administration. Officials believe this step will help passengers make informed choices before starting a journey.
The deputy commissioner warned that legal action will be taken against drivers who fail to register. He said a zero-tolerance policy will be enforced against unregistered taxis and Bykea vehicles operating within Islamabad. Relevant departments have been directed to begin checks and take action where required.
The deputy commissioner also appealed to citizens to travel only in registered vehicles for their own safety. He urged passengers to check the QR code before using any taxi or bike service and report vehicles that do not display the required code.
Drivers have been instructed to complete their registration through the Islamabad City App.
Officials said that once all taxi and Bykea drivers are registered, the overall transport system in the capital will become safer and more transparent. They added that the data collected through the dashboard will also help authorities plan future transport-related measures.
The district administration has advised all drivers who have not yet registered to complete the process immediately to avoid legal consequences. The administration said enforcement teams will continue monitoring roads and popular pick-up points to ensure compliance with the new rules.
