ISLAMABAD, Feb 11 (APP): Under the slogan “Each One, Teach One,” Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST), Islamabad, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) to promote literacy across the country.
The agreement was signed at a ceremony held at the university campus by Vice Chancellor Dr Zabta Khan Shinwari and Director General NCHD, Ali Asghar.
Under the MoU, FUUAST will support NCHD’s mission to eradicate illiteracy by engaging university students in educating out-of-school and illiterate individuals. Each participating student will be assigned the responsibility of teaching at least one illiterate person as part of the initiative.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Dr Zabta Khan Shinwari said that Federal Urdu University is a national institution, and its faculty members and students serve as ambassadors of the country. He termed participation in the national literacy mission an honor for the university. He added that while students graduate as skilled individuals, they will also play a vital role in imparting education to those deprived of learning opportunities.
The Vice Chancellor further informed that a focal person has been appointed to oversee the initiative, and responsibilities will also be assigned to faculty members and students to ensure effective implementation.
Director General NCHD Ali Asghar said that youth can play the most effective role in educating illiterate individuals. He noted that services of university students are being utilized under this vision and expressed gratitude to Dr Shinwari and Federal Urdu University for supporting the noble cause.
