BZU arranges workshop on kitchen gardening,  modern mushroom cultivation

MULTAN, Feb 11 (APP): Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU), Dept of Horticulture in collaboration with the Farmer Development Organization (FDO), organized a two-day training workshop on kitchen gardening and modern mushroom cultivation techniques.
The workshop aimed to equip members of the local community with practical knowledge of cost-effective and efficient methods for growing vegetables and producing mushrooms at the domestic level.
More than 60 participants from Multan and surrounding areas attended the training. Experts from BZU’s Department of Horticulture — Dr. Safina Naz, Dr. Hassan Sardar, and Dr. Shaghaf Ejaz —delivered hands-on instruction, demonstrating how vegetables and mushrooms can be successfully cultivated even in limited spaces and with modest resources.
The sessions covered soil preparation, selection of quality seeds, proper irrigation practices, pest and disease management, as well as the nutritional and economic benefits of kitchen gardening. Speakers emphasized that household gardening not only ensures access to fresh and healthy food but also creates opportunities for supplementary income.
Organizers said such training initiatives play a significant role in promoting self-reliance, strengthening food security, and advancing sustainable agricultural development at the community level.
