Home secy reviews arrangements after successful three-day Basant Festival

LAHORE, Feb 10 (APP): Punjab Home Secretary Dr Ahmad Javed Qazi on Tuesday chaired a key meeting following the conclusion of the three-day Basant Festival to review arrangements under the Punjab Kite Flying Regulations 2025 and in compliance with the orders of the Lahore High Court.
The special session was attended by Special Secretary Home Fazal-ur-Rehman, CTO Lahore, Additional Secretaries of Health, Local Government, Internal Security and Higher Education, director general Walled City Authority, director general Public Relations, deputy commissioner Lahore, SSP Operations Lahore, and representatives from Safe City Authority, PITB, LESCO, Rescue 1122 and Parks and Horticulture Authority.
All participating departments presented their detailed reports on the successful and safe conduct of Basant. It was decided that a comprehensive report on Basant 2026 would be compiled by the Punjab Home Department.
Addressing the meeting, the Home Secretary said that the citizens of Lahore set an example by strictly adhering to laws and the code of conduct during Basant Festival. He appreciated the responsible role played by the public, particularly their compliance with approved kite-flying timings.
Dr Ahmad said the Punjab government had taken comprehensive pre-emptive measures to ensure a safe Basant. He added that more than two million people availed free public transport facilities in Lahore during the three days.
He said over 15 relevant institutions, including police, health, Rescue 1122, Walled City Authority, transport, education, civil defence, LESCO and district administration, performed their duties effectively. Continuous 24/7 surveillance and monitoring through Safe City cameras was ensured throughout the festival.
Meanwhile, it was informed in the briefing that the chief minister Punjab had convened a special meeting to review the successful conduct of Safe Basant and appreciated the performance of all departments. The briefing said continuous public awareness campaigns were carried out to educate citizens about rules and regulations.
It was further shared that, along with international media, numerous foreign guests also enjoyed the Basant in Lahore. The experimental use of safety rods on motorcycles proved successful, and no untoward incident was reported, unlike past years.
After the conclusion of Basant timings, a province-wide ban has been imposed on kite flying, as well as the sale, purchase and transportation of kites and kite strings. Any violation of kite-flying laws will be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law, said spokesperson.
