Govt considering PPP model for airport management to improve passenger services: NA told

ISLAMABAD, Feb 10 (APP):Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhary on Tuesday informed the National Assembly that the government is formulating a policy to manage certain airports under a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
The initiative may include outsourcing airport management to enhance efficiency and passenger facilitation.
Responding to a matter of urgent public importance regarding recurring delays at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi—particularly during immigration and arrival processing—he acknowledged the strategic importance of the airport for Pakistan’s economy and assured lawmakers that their concerns would be addressed.
He emphasized that Karachi, as the country’s economic hub, relies heavily on its airport for trade, travel, and overall economic activity.
The minister assured members that all operational issues highlighted during the discussion have been noted and will be conveyed to the relevant authorities for prompt action.
He cited ongoing discussions with the United Arab Emirates regarding Islamabad International Airport, where a business model is being developed for potential management outsourcing.
He expressed confidence that a structured PPP model would lead to improved services and greater convenience for passengers.
He clarified that operational challenges at Jinnah International Airport would be resolved before extending similar management models to other airports. Consultations with stakeholders and coalition parties will also be held before any final decision.
To ensure transparency and accountability, he suggested that the matter may be referred to the Government Assurance Committee in its next meeting, where members will be briefed on the actions taken.
The minister reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing all concerns raised in the House and improving airport services nationwide.
