ISLAMABAD, Feb 09 (APP): The Senate of Pakistan on Monday unanimously passed a resolution strongly condemning the heinous suicide blast carried out at Imam Bargah Khadijat-ul-Kubra in Islamabad on Friday, which targeted innocent civilians and resulted in tragic loss of lives and injuries.
The resolution expressed deepest condolences and sympathy with the families of the victims and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured.
Through the resolution, the House deplored the targeting of civilians and public places, including religious gatherings, and affirmed that such acts were against the values of Islam, humanity, and the Constitution of Pakistan.
The Senate paid tribute to the prompt response and professionalism of law-enforcement agencies, emergency responders, and medical personnel who acted under challenging circumstances to manage the situation and provide timely assistance.
The House called upon the government to ensure a thorough, transparent, and time-bound investigation into the incident and to bring the perpetrators, facilitators, and sponsors of terrorism to justice in accordance with the law.
It further urged the strengthening of intelligence coordination and security arrangements, particularly in the Federal Capital and other sensitive locations.
Reaffirming the unwavering resolve of the state and the people of Pakistan, the resolution declared that terrorism would be defeated and that national unity, peace, and stability would be preserved at all costs.
The resolution also demanded the immediate establishment of a judicial commission for a transparent, comprehensive, and timely investigation into the incident, with a requirement to present its report to the Senate within four weeks. It proposed that the commission should comprise retired senior judges of the Supreme Court, representatives of intelligence agencies, the Ministry of Interior, as well as members from the National Assembly and the Senate.
The resolution was moved by Senator Syed Waqar Mehdi on his own behalf and on behalf of Senators Raja Nasir Abbas, Leader of the Opposition, Saleem Mandviwalla, Dost Ali Jeesar, Saifullah Sarwar Khan Nyazee, Shahadat Awan, Manzoor Ahmed, Amir Waliuddin Chishti, Syed Masroor Ahsan, Poonjo Bheel, Muhammad Azam Khan Swati, Nadeem Ahmed Bhutto, Ashraf Ali Jatoi, Pervaiz Rashid, Sherry Rehman, Muhammad Faisal Vawda and Palwasha Mohammad Zai Khan, and was unanimously passed by the House./APP-rzr-smd
