PESHAWAR, Feb 09 (APP): In a major development raising concerns over the security of public healthcare facilities, an alleged theft of medical stents and other critical equipment worth Rs. 40 to 45 million has come to light at the Peshawar Institute of Cardiology (PIC).
According to police, the stolen items went missing from the hospital’s warehouse and the incident has been linked to a contract employee identified as Abubakar.
Following the discovery, the hospital administration approached the police, requesting legal action as internal proceedings could not be initiated due to the contractual status of the employee.
Police have registered an FIR and launched a formal investigation using CCTV footage and other available evidence. Efforts are underway to arrest the suspect and recover the stolen medical equipment.
Police officials stated that if the investigation reveals the involvement of additional individuals, they will also be taken into custody and proceeded against under the law.
The incident has highlighted significant security and monitoring gaps at the PIC warehouse, prompting calls for stricter surveillance and improved safeguards to protect valuable medical resources.
