Canada-Pakistan Commerce ministers review bilateral trade,investment cooperation

ISLAMABAD, Feb 08 (APP): Federal Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan, held a telecon with his Canadian counterpart Minister of International Trade of Canada, Mr. Maninder Sidhu, to review and advance Pakistan Canada trade and investment cooperation.
Both Ministers welcomed the positive momentum in bilateral economic relations and reaffirmed their shared commitment to expanding partnerships for mutual economic benefit, said a release issued here on Sunday.
The Canadian side appreciated Pakistan’s decision to facilitate the resumption of Canadian canola shipments, describing this step as an important signal towards strengthening agricultural trade flows.
Both Ministers agreed on the importance of trade diversification and discussed expanding cooperation beyond traditional sectors.
Pakistan outlined its export strengths in textiles and apparel, leather goods, agro-based products, surgical instruments, sports goods, paper, plastics and footwear, while also highlighting growing capabilities in value-added food processing and higher segments of the value chain.
Canadian Minister was informed on Pakistan’s emerging focus on the minerals and mining sector as a new priority area for investment and industrial development, and invited Canadian companies to explore opportunities in this sector.
Both sides agreed to continue engagement at technical and policy levels to identify priority areas for collaboration, facilitate market access, and encourage business to business linkages.
Canadian High Commissioner to Pakistan Mr Tariq Ali Khan and other high officials were also present during the call.
