Weekly inflation witnesses slight increase

ISLAMABAD, Feb 6 (APP):The weekly inflation, measured by the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI), witnessed a slight increase of 0.09 percent for the combined consumption group during the week ended on February 4, 2026, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported on Friday.
According to the PBS data, the SPI for the week under review was recorded at 333.79 points, up from 333.49 points last week. On a year-on-year basis, the SPI registered an increase of 4.84 percent.
The weekly SPI with base year 2015-16 = 100 covers 17 urban centres and 51 essential items for all expenditure groups.
The SPI for the lowest consumption group (up to Rs 17,732) increased by 0.13 percent to 324.23 points from 323.80 points.
The SPI for consumption groups of Rs 17,733–22,888; Rs 22,889–29,517; Rs 29,518–44,175; and above Rs 44,175 went up by 0.11 percent, 0.08 percent, 0.08 percent and 0.09 percent, respectively.
During the week, out of 51 items, prices of 12 (23.53 percent) items increased, 13 (25.49 percent) items decreased and 26 (50.98 percent) items remained stable.
Major commodities registering a week-on-week increase included tomatoes (12.78%), bananas (8.16%), onions (7.27%), garlic (5.45%), high-speed diesel (4.35%), pulse mash (2.34%), pulse moong (0.35%), mustard oil (0.30%) and mutton (0.24%).
On the other hand, major commodities witnessing a decline included wheat flour (2.89%), eggs (2.86%), pulse masoor (1.26%), LPG (0.88%), gur (0.73%), salt powder (0.59%), pulse gram (0.58%), cooking oil 5-litre (0.52%) and rice irri-6/9 (0.36%).
On a year-on-year basis, major increases were observed in the prices of tomatoes (79.70%), eggs (38.87%), wheat flour (34.69%), gas charges for q1 (29.85%), bananas (13.49%), chilies powder (13.30%), beef (12.65%), lpg (11.53%), firewood (11.28%), powdered milk (9.92%), shirting (8.49%) and gur (8.45%).
Commodities witnessing a year-on-year decline included potatoes (44.14%), garlic (32.69%), pulse gram (25.30%), onions (23.03%), tea lipton (17.79%), chicken (11.64%), salt powder (10.68%), pulse masoor (10.36%) and petrol (1.33%).
