RAWALPINDI, Feb 06 (APP):The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Rawalpindi has informed its consumers that water supply from the Khanpur Dam will be reduced from February 5 to February 15 due to annual cleaning, repair, and maintenance work at the dam.
According to a WASA spokesman, during this period, the supply to Rawalpindi will fall from 19 million gallons per day (MGD) to six MGD, and that to Islamabad will decrease from 9.6 MGD to four MGD, causing a partial shortage of water in some areas.
The spokesman said the Agency was making alternative arrangements, including the provision of additional water through tubewells and water bowsers in affected areas, and urged the residents to cooperate.
WASA Rawalpindi Managing Director Muhammad Saleem Ashraf appealed to the citizens to use water judiciously during the period; avoid washing floors, vehicles, motorcycles, or lawns; and limit use to drinking, cooking, and essential domestic needs. The aim, he said, was to ensure fair distribution of the available supply across all areas.
He added that all related agencies were working to complete maintenance and cleaning of the Khanpur Dam on schedule so that normal water supply could resume after February 15.
For complaints, emergencies, or water bowser requests, the residents could contact the relevant WASA field offices or call the helpline at 1334.
