ISLAMABAD, Feb 05 (APP): Islamabad Food Authority (IFA) sealed a bakery industry unit in Sector I-10 after an inspection revealed serious violations of food safety and hygiene laws.
An official told APP on Thursday that during the inspection, extremely unhygienic and substandard conditions were found in the bakery’s working area. Broken hatchery eggs were being used in production, while thick layers of carbon were observed on walls, ceilings and baking trays. Evidence was also found of peeling paint falling directly into food.

The inspection team further noted the presence of fungus inside freezers, cigarette butts on the floor and a large number of flies, indicating poor cleanliness and the absence of an effective pest control system.
The official said that bakery products were being sold without manufacturing and expiry dates. No traceability records, Integrated Pest Management (IPM) records, CIP and deep-cleaning records, or laboratory test reports of finished products were available. Medical screening records of staff were also missing, while the bakery was operating without a valid and functional Islamabad Food Authority licence.

In view of these grave violations and serious risks to public health, the Islamabad Food Authority immediately sealed the bakery unit to stop the supply of unsafe and unhygienic food.
Additionally, considering public health concerns, the licence of the bakery’s stall operating at the H-9 weekly bazaar was also cancelled.
The IFA reiterated that indiscriminate action under its zero-tolerance policy against substandard, unsafe and illegal food businesses would continue. All food business operators have been directed to strictly comply with food safety laws, hygiene standards and licensing requirements, while regular inspections and strict legal action will remain ongoing to protect public health.
