ISLAMABAD, Feb 05 (APP): Pakistan will take on Senegal in the Davis Cup Group II tie, starting on Friday in Islamabad, with tennis star Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi reaffirming his commitment to continue representing the country as long as he is needed.
On the opening day, Pakistan’s Muzammil Murtaza will face Senegal’s Nicolas Jadoun in the singles, while Pakistan’s seasoned campaigner Aqeel Khan will compete against Seydina Andre.
The second day will feature the doubles match, where Pakistan’s pair of Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and Muzammil Murtaza will take on Nicolas and Seydina Andre, of Senegal, followed by the reverse singles.
Speaking to the media, Pakistan’s non-playing captain Rashid Malik said the team selected for the Davis Cup is one of the best, adding that he has accepted the responsibility as a challenge. He expressed optimism about Pakistan’s chances of success against Senegal.
Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi said the team would make every effort to win the Group II tie and added that he is keen to pass on his experience to the younger players.
Senegal’s non-playing captain Bedi Daïng described Pakistan as a strong opponent in the tie and praised the excellent hospitality shown by Pakistan.
The Davis Cup tie matches will be played on the grass courts at the Pakistan Sports Complex in Islamabad.
