ISLAMABAD, Feb 05 (APP):Chairman of the Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said that February 5 symbolised the strong solidarity of the Pakistani nation, parliament, and state institutions with the people of Kashmir.
In his special message on Kashmir Solidarity Day, he said the day reaffirms Pakistan’s firm commitment to stand with the Kashmiri people in their just struggle for the right to self-determination.
The chairman said the people of Kashmir have made great sacrifices over several decades in their struggle for freedom. He added that serious human rights violations and continued Indian actions in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) remain a major test for the conscience of the international community, and its silence is deeply disappointing.
Gilani reiterated that Pakistan has always supported, and will continue to support, the legitimate right of self-determination of the Kashmiri people at diplomatic, political, and moral levels.
He urged the United Nations and other international forums to ensure the implementation of their resolutions and play an effective role in allowing the Kashmiri people to exercise their basic rights.
Referring to past leadership, he said Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto raised the Kashmir issue at the United Nations with courage and vision, setting an important example. He added that Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto also strongly highlighted the Kashmir issue at international forums.
Gilani said PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and President Asif Ali Zardari continue to maintain a clear and principled stance on Kashmir, in line with UN resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.
In his concluding remarks, the chairman said all political parties, the people of Pakistan, and state institutions are united on the Kashmir issue. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to a just solution in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people and United Nations resolutions.
He added that Kashmir is the jugular vein of Pakistan and said Pakistan will never abandon the Kashmiri people in their struggle.
