ISLAMABAD, Feb 05 (APP):Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs Engineer Amir Muqam on Thursday reaffirmed Pakistan’s continued political, moral and diplomatic support for the people of Kashmir while addressing a Kashmir Solidarity Day gathering in Islamabad.
Speaking at the event marking February 5, observed annually as Kashmir Solidarity Day, the minister said the occasion symbolised Pakistan’s enduring commitment to the Kashmiri people and their right to self-determination, which he noted had been recognised in United Nations Security Council resolutions.
Muqam said the Kashmir dispute remained an unresolved international issue for more than seven decades and stressed that lasting peace and stability in South Asia depended on a just and peaceful settlement.
He called on the international community, particularly the United Nations, to play a more active role in ensuring implementation of relevant resolutions and addressing human rights concerns in the region.
The minister criticised India’s August 5, 2019 actions in the region, describing them as unilateral measures that had worsened the human rights situation.
He referred to restrictions on political activity, detentions, and limits on civil liberties, urging global attention to these developments.
Highlighting Pakistan’s recent diplomatic engagement on the issue, Muqam paid tribute to the country’s political and military leadership for raising the Kashmir matter at international forums.
He said national unity remained essential in advocating the Kashmiri cause through diplomatic and political channels.
Addressing the Kashmiri people directly, the minister reiterated that Pakistan would continue to raise their concerns globally and maintain support until a resolution consistent with the right to self-determination was achieved.
Kashmir Solidarity Day was marked across Pakistan with rallies, seminars and public events aimed at expressing solidarity with Kashmiris and highlighting the longstanding dispute at national and international levels.
